David Axelrod - Song Of Innocence
Axelrod began his career in the early 60’s as a producer for Capitol Records working with artists such as Cannonball Adderley, Lou Rawls, David McCallum, and the Electric Prunes. From 1968-1980 he released 9 solo albums, but became depressed when they weren’t met with the recognition or financial success he thought they deserved.
It wasn’t until 1996 when DJ Shadow released his trip-hop classic Endtroducing that he was rediscovered among a new generation of DJs and producers. Shadow’s powerful track “Midnight in a Perfect World” features a sample from Axelrod’s song “The Human Abstract” off his 1969 album Songs of Experience that made beat miners’ heads spin. Since then, nearly all of his records have been re-released and David Axelrod is finally getting the recognition and cash he deserves.
Today the list of Axelrod sampling artists inclues: Dr. Dre, Lauryn Hill, Jurassic 5, Eminem, Mos Def, Common, Pete Rock, Acelayone and Lil’ Wayne–who looped Axelrod’s “Holy Thursday” for the most creative cut on his Carter III album, “Dr. Carter.”by youstru

Carlos y Gaby - La voz sabia de los cosmos
Carlos Niño has himself quite the career going. He’s half of Ninja Tune’s AmmonContact with Fabian Ammon Alston, a third of Hu Vibrational, the leader of the Build An Ark collective, and played a major role in the Dwight Trible supporting Life Force Trio, among several other collaborations. Up from that, he’s played the role of producer for the likes of Mia Doi Todd, Go: Organic Orchestra, and dozens more. Many of those projects have seen him work with gorgeous vocalist and apt keyboardist Gaby Hernandez.
Gaby and Carlos formed a bond over their work. They had been corresponding for several years as a result, trading bits of poetry and script, which would eventually make up the base of La Voz Sabia De Los Cosmos. Like the Emperor Norton released Logan’s Sanctuary, this album is the soundtrack to a sci-fi film that never happened, in this case the detail of a spaceship journey following great lovers in search of far out worlds. It’s Niño’s typical brand of cinematic world beats awash in obscure samples, nonsensical field recordings, and bloopy, retro-futuristic synths. All of this paints a vivid picture of otherworldly realms as intriguing and evocative as the sexually liberated individuals discovering them. This unique voyage will not mark the last time these two work together. Gawd speed.

Jean-Pierre Massiera (Horrific Child)- L'Etrange Mr Whinster
Strange and incredible mid 70s atmospherics from Jean-Pierre Massiera -- dark atmospherics that roll from heady psyche rock to cerebral funk and proggy dynamics -- taken to a far deeper dimension thanks to Massiera's hypnotic use of tape samples and layered vocal errata! It's amazing how much is going on here, especially given that the feverish hypnotic effects never lag -- as wild and tripped out as it gets, the hold it has on your sensory processors never lags! Billed as a Gallic concept album, it may very well be that, but we can only speak for the visceral thrills -- which it has, and many to spare!

Wooden Shjips - Volume 2
Strap in for travels beyond the galaxy to tranced-out cosmic bliss!
Sick Thirst presents Vol. 2, the second compilation of hard-to-find
Wooden Shjips tracks. Vol. 2 digs deep to collect the band's Sub Pop
and Mexican Summer singles, two self-released European tour singles,
and a track from Yeti magazine, for nearly 44 minutes of fuzzed-out
psych jams.
Not just for completists, Vol. 2 contains the essential live standards
"Loose Lips," "Death's Not Your Friend (Live)", and "I Hear the
Vibrations (E-Z Version)," plus savage covers of Neil Young's "Vampire
Blues" and Serge Gainsbourg's "Contact."
Wooden Shjips is a trance-rock quartet from San Francisco consisting
of Omar Ahsanuddin (drums), Dusty Jermier (bass), Nash Whalen (organ),
and Ripley Johnson (guitar and vocals). Their sound crosses the icy
garage rock of early Echo and the Bunnymen with the sun-bleached
tremolo-punk of the Scientists. Hints of krautrock, the
trance-inducing organ haze of Suicide, Velvets-style dance-drone,
classic desert-fried garage psych, and the mysterious, obscure
Japanese lysergic-rock band Les Rallizes Denudes are all mixed into
one explosive whole.
